Cowaramup
Situated on Bussell Highway, in the centre of the Margaret River Wine Region, Cowaramup (or ‘Cowtown’ as its affectionately known) is a quaint town with rural charm and a strong and friendly sense of local community. Gazetted as a railway siding in the original Augusta to Busselton rail line in 1925, the town of Cowaramup was established to support the immerging timber and dairy industries.The name ‘Cowaramup’ is thought to be derived from the Aboriginal word ‘Cowara,’ the local name for a purple-crowned lorikeet.
This is an ideal gateway from which to enjoy the whole region, with the town being in close proximity to a number of wineries, breweries, beautiful beaches, gourmet producers and other great attractions. From cheese to chocolate, soap, beer and wine making, Cowaramup and neighbouring Wilybrup will satisfy every taste. Accommodation options include farmstays, vineyard cottages and boutique B&Bs. Campers and caravans are also catered for nearby. Services and facilities include a general store, bakery, café, bistro and a regional wine centre, as well as other specialty stores. Cowaramup is a worthy stop or stay on any 'down south' itinerary.
Situated just 12km north of Margaret River, the two towns are also linked by the Rails to Trails Heritage bike trail, suitable to all levels of rider.
