The exciting future of surfing will be on show at the 2010 Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River.  Six recent Junior World Champions (5 of them Aussies) will take to the waves.  Challenging the field led by reigning two-time World Champion, Mick Fanning, will be recently crowned 2009 ISA World Junior Champion, Dean Bowen from NSW and Aussie World Junior Champion, Julian Wilson from Queensland.  Other big names attending will be Owen Wright, and his sister, Tyler, Laura Enever and Frenchwoman, Pauline Ado.

It is not just the incredible line up of surfing talent that will make this the biggest surf event ever down south. The Pro will now be the headline act in a variety of events during the competition week to be known as the MASS Festival, which will bring together Music, Arts, Surf and Style in and around Margaret River which will be marketed nationally and internationally.

Following the Women's Final on Saturday afternoon March 20, the MASS Music Festival will launch in the heart of Margaret River.

Whilst the finer details are being locked down, event management will deliver an on-stage line up to match that at The Point, with the concert set to be headlined by Perth rock stalwarts, Gyroscope.

Joining them at the inaugural MASS Music Festival will be progressive rockers Cog, prominent Melbourne-based rock group Eddy Current Suppression Ring, psychedelic hypno-groovers Tame Impala, Sydney posse Philadelphia Grand Jury, hip-hop MC Urthboy, together with local indie band King George. Ready to ride the wild seas of the MASS festival are Yacht Club DJ's, who will perform songs form their breakthrough 2009 album, "Smashing the silence in the quiet anchorage".

In another initiative, the opening act for the MASS Music Festival will be the winner of a local band competition to be held on Wednesday, March 17, at The Settlers Tavern in Margaret River.

Further enhancing the festival concept, MASS Art will be displayed across the event week, with various Artists from different genres asked to interpret the theme "Children of the R.evolution". The genres are painting, photography, sculpture, and movement/live instillation. Their works will be exhibited at a number of Margaret River venues including Wino's, Must Bar, Gnarabar and The Settlers Tavern.

One of the hottest tickets for the week will be for MASS Style, the "Fashion for Fascists" event to be held on Friday, March 19, at The Settlers Tavern.  To be attended by members of the surf, art and music industries, the presentation will include a style preview and "walk off", featuring outfits and themes from the Rusty 2010 Summer Collection along with a live performance from the Sneaky Weasel Gang.

2010 QUIT FOREST RALLY Venue: Busselton and Nannup
Contact Details:

t: 0418 950 022
e: rosstapper@bigpond.com

The Quit Forest Rally will be taking on a huge step in 2010. For the first time in the history of the Australian Rally Championship, motorbikes will be competing in the rally.

The Forest Rally first started 28 years ago as a round of the WA Rally Championship. Two years later, it stepped up to be a round of the Australian Rally Championship. Recently,
the WA Clubman Series joined the event, as did the LF Performance Speed Series, running as a stand alone tarmac event on the Busselton Toyota Super Stage on Saturday.

For 2010, we will be adding in the Rally Moto motorbikes. These competitors would normally compete in the Australasian Safari or similar desert type events. This will be their first chance to compete on forestry roads as part of a rally. The rally will be known as the Quit Forest Rally — Moto. They will run after the Rally Sweep and FIV stages have finished. For 2010, the field will be restricted to 30 bikes or quads. The Moto will bring with it extra crews and spectators and add to the excitement of the Quit Forest Rally weekend.
These will not be the only bikes being part of the weekend Motor Sport Extravaganza. In Nannup there will be a Extreme Youth Festival where Freestyle Motorbikes will be doing demonstration runs as part of the activity on the Nannup Town Special Stage.

The Quit Forest Rally will also be supporting the Black Dog Ride to raise community awareness of Mental Health. On Friday evening, at the Busselton Toyota Special Stage, a group of bikes will be parading laps to promote this cause and then, on Sunday, they will be riding as group, of up to 300 bikes, from Bridgetown to Busselton,
possibly dropping into Nannup along the way.

  • The rally will be Round 2 of the Australian Rally Championship and is the first gravel event for the year.Testing will be available on Wednesday with reconnaissance, documentation and scrutiny on Thursday. The Media Day will be on Friday morning and the rally start that evening on the tarmac Busselton Toyota
Super Stage. Saturday and Sunday will see the crews competing in the plantations around Nannup.
  • The WA Rally Championship is almost identical to the ARC. Documentation and scrutiny will be conducted the weekend before to make it easier during the rally. WARC are eligible to do testing on the Wednesday and they may also enter the ARC. The WARC crews will start immediately after the ARC Crews and will do entire event.
  • The WA Clubman Series has, in the past, started in Nannup on Saturday morning and then finished back in Busselton on Saturday night. We are interested to hear from Clubman competitors if this format still suits or is change required. It may be possible for the Clubman to drop the 2 hour service and jump ahead of the WARC crews back in Busselton. Please send your views though.
  • The Shannons Busselton Sprint will be back on in 2010. In 2009, a record entry of just under 100 cars was received. This caused a log jam getting all the cars through, but with improvements of having Scrutiny done in Perth, and an earlier start, we will be able to ensure everyone gets their four runs.
  • The riders in the Quit Forest Rally - Moto will do parade laps around the Busselton Toyota Super Stage. They will then start the rally behind the Rally Sweep cars after the Clubman Crews. They will do all the stages on Saturday but will stay in Nannup that evening. On Sunday, they will compete in all the stages except Brockman 2, but may do the Ellis Stage a 3rd time.

2010 Quit Forest Rally Course

The course for the 2010 Quit Forest Rally is set and awaiting approval from the authorities. The rally will be similar to other years as we use the same plantations each year. The only change is the start and finish location for the Kinky Stage. Keeping the stages the same will reduce costs and save time during reconnaissance.
The new bridge is now open allowing access to the original start on the Healthway Stage.

Rally HQ at Super Stage

With the rally Media Day, start and overnight Parc Ferme all within walking distance and scrutiny not far away everything is all very central.

Rally Presentation at "The Goose"
The Sunday Presentation Dinner will be held at The Goose Restaurant which is near the Busselton Toyota Special Stage. The Goose is a leading restaurant in Busselton and has caterered for the corporate area at the rally for the past few years. The owner of The Goose, Rhys Passmore, is a rally supporter and has ensured that everyone will get a
terrific meal and the party can continue into the night for as long as everyone is enjoying themselves. The rally organisers will be providing buses to make it easy to get to and from the dinner.

Voyager Estate will host Vintage Stomp! for 2010.

This event, now a well known major celebration of the end of the vintage harvest, involves scores of community groups and organisations, all timed to enable the hundreds who have toiled to bring in the crop over the previous three months to relax, to rest, and to celebrate.
The day is one of entertainment and festivity, starting with a parade headed by the God of wine Bacchus bringing to life a day filled with circus performers, dancers, actors, minstrels, competitions and more,  under the creative direction of the Noble Rot Theatre Company.
In keeping with the tradition of a theme from another wine growing country, this year's Californian styled event is sure to be a winner with the crowds. On offer will be great wine, delicious food, a mini market under the shade of the trees, a cheese tent in the licensed area to name but a few. There are lots of reasons to enjoy the day and celebrate like only the Californians know how - adding true Napa Valley style.

Many local business and community groups have signed up to participate in this fabulous event. We are now calling on local wineries, artisans, food vendors and regional produce suppliers who wish to be involved in this years Vintage Stomp - particularly those who could make the most of the Californian theme.

So what is all the fuss about? Simply, the cow is a universally beloved animal. The cow represents different things to different people around the world - she’s sacred, she’s historical, she connects us to our past - but the common feeling is one of affection. There is something magical about the cow that transcends throughout the world. She simply makes everyone smile.

What is Cow Parade?  A whole bunch of life-size fibre glass cows are hauled in and left in the hands of talented local artists.

Once the cows are painted, sculpted, morphed and more they will be placed at various locations across the Cape including wineries, beaches, local businesses, iconic attractions and town centres. The cows will be around from March to June and plenty of people will travel far and wide to see them. The culmination of the four month event is a gala auction of the cows, where the proceeds will go to selected charities and regional projects.
