Awards
By winning five trophies in 2008 for their very first red wine released, including the Jimmy Watson, you could say Flametree Wines had a lucky start in the wine industry. Is it still luck when you?re a finalist in the following years Jimmy Watson class? Maybe it?s just ?third time lucky? when they take home the best SSB blend trophy from their local show in a wine region that is renowned for SSB?
Last year was a successful year for Flametree Wines on the wine show circuit, winning five gold medals, nine silver and twenty seven bronze. Three of those five gold medals were awarded on the international wine show circuit, where the competition is much greater.
Along with those 41 medals, Flametree was a hit with several wine critics in the media. Philip Rich included the relatively new S.R.S. Chardonnay in his top 20 wines of the year in the Australian Financial Review Magazine and said ?Cliff Royle, who made terrific chardonnay during his time at Voyager Estate, is one of a new wave of Margaret River chardonnay producers successfully focusing on fruit purity and structure, while still retaining the richness and power Margaret River chardonnay is famous for.?
In the Sydney Morning Herald, Huon Hooke said ?Flametree hit the ground running with its first vintage in 2007 and then employed former Voyager Estate winemaker Cliff Royle, whos taken the baton and sprinted. The wines are all excellent?? The Advertisers? Tony Love noted that "Cliff Royle has propelled Flametree to ascend to supernova status in Margaret River?? and big hugs to Winsor Dobbin who said ?Flametree is a name to look out for? kicking quality goals on a consistent basis??
