Margaret River
The town of Margaret River, ‘Margs’ or ‘Margies’ as often referred by locals, is home to an eclectic mix of surfers, farmers, artists, vignerons, holiday-makers and those who simply left the rat race behind. Situated on the banks of its meandering namesake, surrounded by forest and walk trails, the town offers an array of services and facilities to visitors including restaurants, cafes, and speciality shops. Several types of accommodation are on offer from quaint B&Bs, boutique guesthouses and a selection of mid-size hotels or self-catered apartments.
At the cental point of the capes region, the town proves a great jumping off point to explore up and down the coast with rural and vineyard vistas along the scenic Caves Road.
Just a 7km drive or bike ride from town is the seaside hamlet of Prevelly - where the Margaret River enters the Indian Ocean. At the rivermouth is the aptly named Surfer’s Point, home to the Margaret River Pro. This qualifying surfers series takes place at the end of each summer, drawing an international field of professional surfers, grommets and media attention.
