BUSSELTON JETTY RESTORATION PROJECT 2009/2010
Update 29/05/2009
The project is well underway :
- The Site Compound now built (at the rear of The Goose Café), sections of one of the major barges have arrived, with further barges being towed into Geographe Bay from Tuesday of next week.
- The major barge currently in the site compound will be 15m wide and 24m long and strengthened once each section is clipped together in the shallow water by the small Scout Road Jetty (left of the Busselton Jetty).
- FTE in conjunction with Marine and Civil are responsible for securing these barges and should be complete within 2-3 weeks ready to drive the first pile.
- 1/3 of the wooden piles required to be driven are already prepared with points at one end to enable driving into the seabed, and a steel ‘shoe’ over the point to protect the wood from splitting. Each pile has a steel collar around its head that will further protect it.

Update 01/05/2009
The Busselton Jetty is undergoing a $24 million restoration project from May 2009 which will see the iconic Jetty fully refurbished and the return of the famous Jetty Train by early 2010. Many thanks need to be acknowledged to the Western Australian State Government led by Premier Colin Barnett for the funds, and for recognizing the pivotal role the Jetty has to the tourism industry and local economy of the South West region.
During May and June 2009, access is provided to the first fishing platform which is approximately 200m from the shoreline and will allow visitors to view the construction process and enjoy this section for recreational purposes as usual. The Interpretive Centre at the beginning of the Jetty is open every day and still provides a unique marine themed giftware store, heritage museum and a now a new Jetty Restoration Communications Wall that is home to the full rebuild plans!
Visitors are encouraged to come and watch this intriguing construction process as it unfolds. You will find daily news announcements on the Busselton Jetty website at www.busseltonjetty.com.au to keep abreast of what is happening in this exciting project!
